Our dedication to service began in 1938 with our matriarch and founder, Clara Sells. Those were tough times for the country economically, and Clara’s commitment to helping seniors in their golden years filled a great need for people who were either alone or forgotten, or who had special care needs too difficult for their families to provide alone. The tradition of caring continued under the guidance of Clara’s daughter-in-law, Annie Sells, who for decades helped grow and continuously modernize Benchmark’s family of facilities.

Today, Benchmark Healthcare is headed by Annie’s son, John Sells. With John’s strong leadership, the company has added specialized staff and services to provide exceptional care for those with memory issues or physical rehabilitation needs, and to offer healthcare to the behaviorally challenged. The company is focused on providing the best possible environment for each of its residents, and the best possible working conditions for its associates. That’s a winning combination that benefits everyone, especially those under our care.

John is deeply committed to the important mission he inherited from his grandmother and mother, and his personal love of his caretaker role is obvious to residents, their families and the care-giving staff. To keep himself firmly rooted in his duty to provide the loving care his family of residents deserves, John insists on direct interaction with the people served by Benchmark Healthcare. He is a frequent visitor to each of his facilities…always friendly and accessible…treating people like people.
